A Childhood Dream, Reimagined
Hi, I’m Yuliia Caliskan — you may know me as the founder of MonAme Magazine. If my life had a tagline, it would probably read: “From consultations to conversations to coat transformations — blending medicine, communications, and mindful pet grooming.” 🐾
I’ve journeyed from treating human skin as a dermatologist to pampering paws as a groomer, and somewhere in between, founded a magazine and led communications at a medical non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. Now, with Bark & Beauty Grooming Wellness Studio, I’m bringing it all together — medicine, communication, and compassion — into a holistic space where self-care isn’t just for humans, but also for the pets who share our hearts (and sofas).
There’s a photo from my childhood: me, grinning ear to ear, hugging our family dog like the world’s happiest pup parent. Little did I know that this furry friendship planted the seed for a future filled with wagging tails, wellness rituals, and a lifelong love of care in all its forms.
From Ukraine to Switzerland: My Journey to Grooming & Wellness
I grew up in Ukraine, in a home full of life and chaos — dogs, cats, birds, and even the occasional guinea pig. It was noisy, joyful, and deeply grounding. Fast forward through a few years and several countries later, and I found myself building a life and family in Switzerland.
Then life took me through storms I never imagined. Losing both of my parents left a wound that time could not easily heal. On top of that, the war in my homeland — watching the destruction from afar — was heartbreaking, and the weight of grief became even heavier. I also found myself disillusioned by the corporate world.
Just when everything felt overwhelmingly dark, a little puppy came into our life like a spark of light. He didn’t erase the pain, but he brought hope back — a reminder that love, trust, and connection can guide us out of even the deepest shadows. From that moment, the path towards a new purpose began to unfold.
Creating Bark & Beauty Grooming Wellness Studio
That spark of joy turned into bold action. I retrained professionally and earned the iPET Network Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming & Salon Management. Combining medical knowledge with grooming expertise.
When I first practised with my own puppy, I imagined it would be a calm, spa-like moment. Instead, we both ended up slightly damp, equally fluffed, and much wiser. Grooming, I realised, is truly teamwork — especially when your teammate has four paws and opinions.
That’s how Bark & Beauty was born—Switzerland’s first integrated grooming and wellness space, created for pets and people alike. I’m deeply grateful to my husband, family, and friends who believed in this vision and supported me every step of the way.
