History of Zurich Opera House. Zurich Opera House, a beacon of cultural heritage
Zurich Opera House, founded in 1891, boasts a rich history that dates back to 1834 with the “Actien-Theater.” Designed by Fellner and Helmer, this architectural gem showcases an elegant neo-classical façade adorned with busts of Wagner, Mozart, and Shakespeare. Inside, the main auditorium of a neo-rococo interior has a seating capacity of approximately 1,200 people.
