Bar am Wasser is heading for the Engadin, and we have a feeling this winter in St. Moritz is going to taste very different.

In October we joined the presentation of a new partnership between Zurich’s Bar am Wasser and GRACE LA MARGNA ST MORITZ, and we left already planning our next trip up the mountain. For anyone who has not been yet: GRACE LA MARGNA is the first five-star lifestyle hotel in St. Moritz that stays open all year round, with 74 rooms spread across the heritage-listed La Margna building and a modern new wing.

The idea is simple and rather brilliant. Instead of one bar simply bringing its menu to the other, the two teams are creating new signature cocktails together, exclusively for the hotel’s N/5 bar, which took home Best Bar Team at the Swiss Bar Awards 2025. As Dirk Hany, co-owner of Bar am Wasser, put it, they are not coming to teach anyone how to mix a drink. They want to create something that tastes like both houses and still feels entirely like St. Moritz.

The part that won us over, though, is hidden a little further inside the hotel. From the start of the season, the partners are opening “the BOUTIQUE”, a speakeasy tucked into the former hotel boutique, with just 15 seats. Intimate, pared back, with personal service and good music, it is the opposite of a classic hotel bar.

And of course, we already checked the most important detail: dogs are welcome at the hotel on request, with bowls and a basket provided. There is a nightly fee, so mention yours when you book. Our dog Leandro has not had the chance to try GRACE LA MARGNA for himself yet, but a snowy weekend in St. Moritz is firmly on his list. We will share our experience once we have been, and we are hoping to see a few old friends there and make some new ones along the way, on two legs and four.

Fifteen seats will not last long. See you at the bar.
